Anike Dance and Drum Ensemble housed at the Carver Community Cultural Center, was formed out of a summer African Dance and Drum residency in 1998 at the Carver Community Cultural Center. The African American Dance Ensemble founded by Chuck Davis was the artist in residence that summer. One of the mission’s of Anike is to educate and share with the people of San Antonio and surrounding area the traditions of the African and African American culture through music, dance and song. The ensemble performs traditional dances and contemporary pieces choreographed by the company. The Anike Dance and Drum Ensembles give praise to our ancestors and those who came before us because without them we would not be here today.
