She began performing as a spoken word artist in the summer of 2002, when, as a graduate student at Michigan State University, she joined the MSU Black Poets Society.

In 2003, Sydeaka joined an urban group of New Orleans literary artists who were as talented as they were diverse. Under their indirect instruction, she crafted a unique style of poetry which often uses comedy and metaphors to tell stories or explain her point of view. Her poetry was featured in “Our Tears Will Flood the City”, a musical dedicated to relief for Hurricane Katrina survivors in April 2006. Also, in the summer of 2007, she worked with other New Orleans evacuees and Jump-Start Performance Company to help produce “Exodus”, a work inspired by the stories and struggles of those who had survived the unimaginable. She’s a spoken word artist, poet, mathematician, aspiring statistician, and a self-proclaimed “avid Facebook enthusiast”.

Sydeaka also sings as a soprano in the Heavenly Voices Gospel Choir at Baylor University where she is enrolled as a full time graduate student in statistical sciences. Her recent induction into Msanii Artist Collective is a testament to her desire to grow with other local artists and enhance the San Antonio art community.
